by Isaac Albeniz

Free Sheet Music for Guitar

Arranged for guitar by Eythor Thorlaksson
The quintessential "Spanish guitar" piece, written by Isaac Albeniz during the early 1890's, most likely in London. First time published in Barcelona, by Juan Bta. Pujol & Co., in 1892 as the opening "Preludio" of a three-movement set entitled Chants d' Espagne, op. 232. In 1911 (two years after Albéniz's death), German publisher Hofmeister published the first "complete" version of an earlier work of Albéniz's, the Suite española, op. 47, including "Preludio", which became known as "Asturias" (subtitled "Leyenda"). The first successful guitar arrangement of the preludio Leyenda belongs to Andrés Segovia. The score available to download was arranged by Icelandic guitarist and composer Eythor Thorlaksson, the principal guitar teacher at the music school in Hafnarfjordur, Iceland.
