Solo work "Piano Sonata No. 14 in C-sharp Minor, Op. 27, No. 2: Sonata quasi una fantasia" by Ludwig van Bethoven, better known as "Moonlight Sonata" was completed in 1801, premiered by composer and published next year. Inspired by Beethoven's love for his 17-year-old pupil, the Countess Giulietta Guicciardi Bethoven dedicated "Moonlight Sonata" to her. Composer was surprised and exasperated because of "Moonlight Sonata" popularity. He wrote: ""Surely I've written better things."
