Free Sheet Music for Guitar

Arranged for guitar by Erik Satie
Three short piano compositions written by French composer and pianist Erik Satie in 1888. Satie claimed his Gymnopédies were inspired by reading Gustave Flaubert's novel Salammbô, but most possibly it was based upon the poetry of Contamine, who wrote Les Antiques ("The Ancients") . Satie was a colourful figure in the early 20th century Parisian avant-garde. When he visited the Chat Noir cabaret, due to lack of any professional occupation he presented himself as a "gymnopaedist" in an attempt to outwit the director, Rodolphe Salis. Two months later Saitestarted to write his first piano composition, the three Gymnopédies.
