Before 1936, Sabicas made a number of solo recordings that demonstrated the mature technique of the twenty-years-old guitarist. He also showed an interest in developing solo versions of some of the more trivial flamenco rhythms.
Sabicas left Spain in 1936 during the Spanish Civil War. He went to South America with dancer Carmen Amaya. The two toured together several times. Later Sabicas settled in New York City and he did not return to Spain until 1967.
He was probably best known for his technical skills: fast scales and arpeggios, perfect pitch and quality composition for the many forms of flamenco.
Sabicas was a tremendous genius of his day. He brought art of Flamenco to biggest concert halls and major theaters where all classes can enjoy.
