Peter Green (born Peter Allen Greenbaum, 29 October 1946, Bethnal Green, London) took first guitar lesson from his older brotger. By the age of eleven, Peter was teaching himself. His earliest influence as a young guitarist was Hank Marvin of The Shadows and blues giants like Muddy Waters and BB King.
Peter's first band was called "Bobby Dennis and the Dominoes" whose repertoire was mainly whatever was in the charts; recorded for the first time in his career with the Looner's band.
Peter Green first claim to fame was in 1966, when he had the very tough job of replacing Eric Clapton in John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers. Unknown Peter Green, quickly earned fans of his own. Like Clapton he recorded only one album with Bluesbreakers, "A Hard Road".
When Green left Mayall in 1967, he took McVie and Fleetwood to found Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac.
Band's self-titled debut album was a huge success in the UK and reached #4 in the charts. Green's instrumental "Albatross" was the band's first British number one single and "Black Magic Woman" was later a huge hit for Carlos Santana.
Peter wanted to give all of the band's money to charity, while the rest of the band didn't agree with the idea. So Peter decided to leave Fleetwood Mac and the music business altogether. Soon he was diagnosed with schizophrenia, and spent time in psychiatric hospitals undergoing electroconvulsive therapy in the mid-1970s.
He came back with his Peter Green Splinter Group. Now Peter Green is still out there playing the blues. His place in rock history is undeniable.
