Howard Alden
Acclaimed American jazz guitarist born in Newport Beach, California, who began playing guitar at age ten,
inspired by recordings of Armstrong, Basie and Goodman, and by jazz guitarists such as Barney Kessel,
Charlie Christian, Django Reinhardt and George Van Eps.
He started to work and play professionally around Los Angeles before he moved to New York CIty n 1982.
Alden was quickly recognized as skilled musician and appeared on recordings with such artists as Joe Bushkin,
Joe Williams, Woody Herman, Benny Carter, Clark Terry, Dizzy Gillespie and George Van Eps.
Since the late '80s he has recorded a long series of albums for Concord Records as a leader, co-leader, and sideman.
Inspired by George Van Eps since 1992 Alden has been playing the seven-string guitar.
In 1999 Howard recorded the soundtrack for Woody Allen movie "Sweet and Lowdown", starring Sean Penn.
Howard not only played all the guitar solos but also taught actor Sean Penn to mime playing guitar for his role in the film.
Sean Penn was nominated for an Academy Award for his role as a legendary jazz guitarist !
