Benjamin Verdery

Extraordinary guitarist and prolific, published composer Benjamin Verdery is one of key figures for American classical guitar society.
As a performer, Verdery has given concerts around the world and appeared with such diverse artists as Hermann Prey, John Williams, Paco Pena, Leo Kottke and Andy Summers, and Jessye Norman. He has performed duos with his wife, flutist Rie Schmidt. Verdery has released over 15 albums and won the Classical Recording Foundation Award for his recording Start Now (Mushkatweek) in 2005.
As a composer, Verdery publish his works thorugh Doberman-Yppan music publishing company. His compositions have been performed by such artists as John Williams, Sergio and Odair Assad, David Russell, and the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet.

Benjamin Verdery is artistic director of 92nd Street Y’s Art of the Guitar series. He has been teaching guitar at the Yale University School of Music since 1985 and is artistic director of the Yale Guitar Extravaganza and of the Connecticut Guitar Festival.

Verdery uses D'Addario strings and guitars by Garrett Lee and Otto Vowinkel.
