Alí Arango

Cuban classical guitarist, arranger and composer Alí Arango is one of most promising artists in the world of contemporary classical guitar.

He graduated from the "Amadeo Roldán" Conservatory in Havana, 2001. He was also studying guitar under masters Antonio Alberto Rodríguez and Joaquín Clerch and received occasional masterclasses from Leo Brouwer.
Arango has been awarded in several International Guitar competitions, but his most important award was winning 32nd Segovia Competition in 2017. Other important awards are First Prize in the Palau de la Música contest in Barcelona, First Prize in the" Düsseldorfer Gitarfestival, First Prize XII International Guitar Competition "Miguel Llobet" , Third Prize in the XII Contest and Festival of Guitar of Havana "Leo Brouwer".

At the age of 19 years only he was invited by other famous Cuban guitarist and composer, Leo Brouwer to perform World Premiere of three works by Brouwer: "Paisaje Cubano con Tristeza" (solo guitar); "Gismontiana" (for four guitars and string orchestra) and Series No1 of the "Ritual and Festive Dances" (for solo guitar).

In 2005 Arango moved to Barcelona, Spain where he currently resides. He has recorded his CD "Guitar Recital" for NAXOS records, with World Premiere Recording of works by Leo Brouwer, works of Joaquín Clerch, David del Puerto, and his own compositions.

Apart of classical music Arango is composing and playing music that is fusion of Cuban, contemporary and jazz.
Arango played Alhambra guitar -Vilaplana NT Series model at Segovia Competition 2017. He is sponsored by Manufacturas Alhambra and most often he plays Paco Santiago Marín´s guitar.



At present Alí Arangois is the member of the TRAZA QUARTET (two guitars, violin and violoncello) that he founded in 2001. The other project is PYROPHORUS GUITAR DUO with the guitarist Josué Fonseca.
TRAZA and PYROPHORUS GUITAR DUO explores the fusion between Cuban music, jazz and contemporary music.
