One of three blues giants with the surname King, Freddy (or Freddie) King, known as the “Texas Cannonball” was a Chicago blues legend, particularly on the city’s West Side. In 1959 he recorded his first single “Have You Ever Loved a Woman” and in 1961 recorded “Hide Away”, which would become his biggest hit.King’s way of improvising was more intense and creative than his peer B.B. King’s. He used a plastic finger pick on his thumb and a metal finger pick on his index finger.
Freddie King's death at 42 was untimely, yet his influence is still undeniable.
