The Shadow of Your Smile was scored by Johnny Mandel for the 1965 film The Sandpiper which starred Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. Mandel won a Grammy for Best Score for a Motion Picture and together with lyricist Paul Francis Webster won the Oscar for Best Original Song.
became one of the most recorded film songs of the decade. Famous versions were by Barbra Streisand, Shirley Bassey, Tony Benett, Frank Sinatra, Astrud Gilberto.
Several guitarists recorded jazz version of the song and this includes such names as Wes Montgomery, Baden Powell, George Benson, Bireli Lagrene, John Pizzarelli to name only few.
