Grant Green is one of the major figures of jazz guitar. Underrated great musician who performed blues, R&B, hard bop, soul jazz, bebop and Latin Jazz music. He mentioned Charlie Christian and Charlie Parker as his primary influences. Born in St. Louis Grant started his professional career the age of 12 only. In the early age he recorded with saxophonist Jimmy Forrest and drummer Elvin Jones. In 1961 he released his first album "Grant's First Stand" with organist Baby Face Willette and drummer Ben Dixon. He also recorded with many important musicians on Blue Note, including Hank Mobley, Ike Quebec, Stanley Turrentine, Larry Young, McCoy Tyner and Elvin Jones. During late 1960s Grant was no so active due to personal problems with heroin addiction. He returned in 1970s with his new funk band and released commercially successful album "Green is Beautiful". He also made soundtrack to the film The Final Comedown. In 1979 he was engaged to play for George Benson, but he died in his car of a heart attack in New York City on January 31.
After Green's death, his reputation has grown and many compilations of his recordings has been released later.
