Julio César Oliva is one of the greatest Mexican classical guitarist and one of the most prolific guitar composers in Mexico as well.
He says that he came to the guitar by accident. The piano at his home had to be sold and he was left to play a guitar. Later he studied at the National School of Music and National Conservatoire of Music under Alberto Salas. Julio César arranged many traditional folk-tunes and popular songs for guitar, and wrote more than 200 original compositions for various instruments. Many of his works are inspired by books (the portrait of Dorian Gray or The teachings of Don Juan, for example) or by paintings.
One of his most popular composition for guitar is "Sonata del amor" cosisting of four parts: I. Arcoiris, II. Romance, III. Atardecer de Amor, IV. Plenitus .
In video this is second part "Romance" performed by Cota Rican guitarist Marco Corrales
