Eddie Van Halen (born Edward Van Halen,January 26, 1955 in Nijmegen, The Netherlands) and his brother Alex growing up in Pasadena, California. In the childhood Eddie and Alex took classical piano lessons. As teenagers, Eddie switched to guitar and Alex to drums and they started a band called Mammoth.

In 1974, they hooked up with vocalist David Lee Roth and bassist Michael Anthony to form Van Halen band. Within a few years, the band had become hugely popular in the Los Angeles rock scene and soon in 1978 they signed with Warner Bros. In 1977. During the next few years, Van Halen became one of the hardest working and most profitable bands in the recording industry.

Eddie is recognized as one of the most influential, original, and talented rock guitarists of the 20th century. He is ranked 70th on the Rolling Stone list of Top 100 guitarists. Eddie Van Halen is the survivor of tongue and mouth cancer.
