Marty Friedman (born December 8, 1962 in Washington, D.C.) is basically self-tought guitarist , best known as the lead guitarist for Megadeth from February 1990 to December 1999. He began his career as a Shrapnel solo recording artist. Before joining Megadeth in 1990 Marty with another unique shredder Jason Becker formed the unrivaled dual guitar unit - Cacophony. They released 2 albums ”Speed metal symphony” 1987, and ”Go Off” 1989, and toured the US and Japan.
Almost 10-year period of Megadeth with Marty Friedman is considered as most successful for the band. Megadeth released number of gold and platinum albums. Megadeth's musical style became less Thrash, and more melodic, primarily to Marty's influence.
In December 1999 Friedman left Megadeth band. He stated that he got tired of playing metal music.
Currently Friedman is living in Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan and speaks fluent Japanese.. He travels the world giving clinics, performances and master classes.
