Mark Tremonti (born Grosse Point neighborhood of Detroit, Michigan, April 18, 1974) at age eleven bought his first guitar inspired by rock and metal bands like KIss and Metallica. He immediately began teaching himself how to play from tab books and practicing his favorite songs by ear. After high school Mark attended Clemson University in South Carolina for a year, Mark continued to improve on the guitar from instructional videos and had started peforming at open mic nights. Soon he formed the band with his school mate, lead vocalist Scott Stapp in 1995 with fellow members, bassist Brian Marshall and Scott Phillips on drums. The band released their debut album "My Own Prison" in 1997, selling over six million copies.
after Creed disbanded Tremonti, Marshall, and Phillips formed Alter Bridge band and asked Myles Kennedy (current touring vocalist for Slash's band) to be their singer.
Tremonti has worked with several artists since his beginning years with Creed, including Sevendust, Fozzy, Larry the Cable Guy, Michael Angelo Batio, and Bury Your Dead.
Mark Tremonti has been nominated for three Grammy Awards and won in "Best Rock Song" category (2001) for the song "With Arms Wide Open".
