James "Blood" Ulmer (born February 2, 1942) often described as missing link between Jimi Hendrix and Wes Montgomery is American blues guitarist and singer. Norn in St. Matthews, South Carolina, he began his career playing with various soul jazz ensembles.
After meeting Ornette Coleman upon moving to New York in the early 1970s Ulmer truly found his voice. Working steadily alongside his mentor in the New York City downtown loft jazz scene, Ulmer's guitar work blossomed into a one-of-a-kind idiosyncratic style that transcended genre.

In 2001 he released the album Blue Blood on Innerhythmic Records. Although best known for his work with harmolodics and Ornette Coleman, Blue Blood finds him returning to his Southern Roots and sensibilities and playing some hard, raw blues in a style that only he can claim.
