Not a guitarist, but key figure in American rock, soul and blues history. Five singles by Joplin reached the Billboard Hot 100. Acover of the Kris Kristofferson song "Me and Bobby McGee" was number 1 in March 1971. Highly respected for her charismatic performing ability, Joplin was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995.Janis was regularly using amphetamines and other drugs and she died of a heroin overdose at the age of 27 only.
