Mike Stern - Big Neighborhood

One of today's top jazz fusion player Mike Stern's Big Neighborhood fourteenth 2009 album, nominated for a Grammy in Best Contemporary Jazz Album category.
The idea of the album title should be pretty clear if you find all guest musicians invited by Mark to play together. The list is long and impressing: guitarists Steve Vai and Eric Johnson; bassist-vocalists Esperanza Spalding and Richard Bona; drummers Dave Weckl, Terri Lyne Carrington, Cindy Blackman and Lionel Cordew; bassists Chris Minh Doky and Lincoln Goines, and several others.
The selections of songs vary in style and keep the listener engaged. Each of the musicians plays a major role in producing this fine effort.
3rd track “Reach” is a latin groovein which each soloist have a chance to stretch out over rhythm section. “Song for Pepper” is very catchy melody in a Pat Metheny style.
Each song is different, Stern and Vai play off of each other very well. Their tones are perfectly synchronized. All musicians apearing on album are having fun together and so will any listener.
