August this year is really tragic month for jazz world. After sudden death of Chuck Loeb at 61 only, now other renowned jazz and fusion guitarist, John Abercrombie has died at age 72, August 22 at Hudson Valley Hospital in Cortlandt Manor, NY.
After attending Boston’s Berklee College of Music, Abercrombie moved to New York in the late ’60s, where he gained prominence as a session musician for Gil Evans, Gato Barbieri, Barry Miles, and more. He earned fame playing jazz fusion through his recordings for the ECM label in cooperation with such artists as drummer Jack DeJohnette, keyboardist Jan Hammer and bassist Dave Holland. He remained active until he was sidelined by a stroke earlier this year, releasing "Up and Coming" album with his John Abercrombie Quartet in January.
