Germany born (Hamburg) flamenco guitarist Jan Hengmith began to play guitar when he was 15 years old. Whn Jan was 23 he moved to Granada, Sacromonte, Spain for 2 years, and learned guitar from such masteros as by Paco Pena, Rafael Habichuela and Manuel De Palma. After return to Hamburg in 1986 he continued to study musicology, ethnology and philosophy at the University of Hamburg. From 1987 Hengmith taught flamenco-guitar at the University of Hamburg for next 6 years, and gave first live concerts as a soloist as well as with the flamenco-dancer Perla de Andalucia. Since many years Jan tours every year, participate on various Guitar- and Flamenco-Festivals.
Currently Jan Hengmith is teaching at music school in Hamburg, gives masterclass and private lessons.
