Victor Bailey was born in Philadelphia, on March 27, 1960 into a musical family. His father Morris Bailey Jr., is a master composer, arranger, producer, saxophonist, artist and teacher. Bailey’s talent quickly became evident. He soon became one of the busiest bassists in Philadelphia and attended Berklee College of Music in Boston.

After New York City arrival in first year he recorded with Sonny Rollins, Miriam Makeba, Lenny White, Sadao Watanabe, Roy Haynes and many, many others. From 1982 he was the bass player for Weather Report during their final years from 1982 to 1986, and launched a solo career in 1988.

Fender has released a Victor Bailey Signature acoustic bass guitar, as well as the Victor Bailey Jazz Bass, available in 4, 5-string, fretted and fretless versions.
