Ted Nugent (born Theodore Anthony Nugent, December 13, 1948) began playing music at age six and is largely a self-taught musician. At the age of 14, he formed his first band, the Lourds. After moving to Chicago, he fronted the band the Amboy Dukes. After return to Detroit (1967), where he began recruiting new members for his band. Within three months, the band signed with Mainstream Records and released their self-titled debut album. The following year, they released single, “Journey to the Center of the Mind,” which reached No. 8 on the pop charts.

In the early 1970s, the Amboy Dukes continued to record while averaging more than 300 concert dates per year.
In 1975, Nugent decided to pursue a solo career. Recording with the Epic Records label, he released his first solo album, Ted Nugent and following in 1977, recorded his most successful album - Cat Scratch Fever, selling more than three million copies.

He continued to record solo throughout the '80s, and in the '90s Nugent had even more success as a member of Damn Yankees. He is equally famous as an outspoken advocate for hunting and gun ownership rights.
