Stu Hamm

Stuart "Stu" Hamm (February 8, 1960) was born in New Orleans, into a musical family (his father is a musicologist and has penned music textbooks, his mother was an opera singer/teacher) studied bass and piano. At the Berklee College of Music in Boston he met Steve Vai and was introduced to Joe Satriani. As a result Hamm played on on Satriani's releases such as 1988's Dreaming #11 and 1989's Flying in a Blue Dream.
Although Hamm was already recognized by guitar publications worldwide, he didn't suceed with own band, didn't also appear too often with other musicians for few next years.

He returned in next decade, when founded a trio GHS (Frank Gambale, Hamm, and drummer Steve Smith), and issued the albums Show Me What You Can Do (1998), Light Beyond (2000), and GHS 3 (2002). He also issued his first solo release in nine years, 2000's Outbound.

From 1997 Stu toured and recorded alongside Satriani again (1997's G3: Live in Concert, 1998's Crystal Planet, and 2001's Live in San Francisco).

Hamm has his own Washburn signature Acoustic Bass model since 2011, available in either Black Cherry Burst or a Natural finish with custom Stu Hamm yin-yang inlays.
