Steve Bailey
Steve Bailey (born February 10, 1960 in Jacksonville North Carolina) began playing bass at 12 after hearing Chick Corea’s Light As A Feather. Once heard Jaco Pastorious and Stanley Clarke he began practicing fretless bass 12 hours per day.
His first professional perforamnce was with Cuban jazz sensation Paquito D’Rivera, then he joined Dizzy Gillespie’s band and traveled the world.
Bailey subsequently landed gigs and sessions with Dave Liebman, David Benoit, Jethro Tull, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Willie Nelson, Larry Carlton, mily Remler, John Patitucci, Billy Sheehan and Kitaro and many more.
He released his first instructional video, Advanced Bassix.
In the early 1990s Bailey formed bass duo Bass Extremes with fellow bass virtuoso Victor Wooten, and continued to record, gig and travel throughout the decade. He remains a busy player on both coasts, and is an artist in residence and associate professor at Coastal Carolina University.
Steve plays through Ampeg amplifiers, uses a custom made signature Aria Pro fretless six string bass, and D’Addario EXLS510 strings.
