When Taste disbanded at the end of 1970, Gallagher went on to a successful solo career. After recording his 1970 debut, self-titled album Rory Gallagher for Polydor Records in the U.K, the album was picked up for U.S. distribution by Atlantic Records. Following extensive tours of Europe, throughout 1972, Rory followed up with the album “Live In Europe,” a top ten triumph both in the UK and internationally.
In 1973 Rory was invited to guest on Muddy Waters' “London Sessions” album. In 1974 The Rolling Stones invited Rory to Holland to record with them, following the departure of Mick Taylor. He was also invited to guest on an album by Jerry Lee Lewis, and went on to the Montreux Jazz Festival to record with Albert King on his “Live In Montreux” album, then guested with jazz/blues giant Chris Barber.
Rory's tour schedules were almost like crazy. Countless tours in western Europe, many gigs in North America, four Japanese Tours, Australia.
Gallagher passed away from complications owing to liver transplant surgery on June 14, 1995, at age 47.
