Rory Block (born Aurora Block, November 6, 1949, Princeton, New Jersey) started learning to play folk music on the guitar. As a teenager she first heard the blues, and went on to play with such names as Gary Davis and Mississippi John Hurt. At age 13 she met Stefan Grossman who further encouraged her interest in the blues music.

Later she took 10-year break to raise her family and returned to music in 1975. She continued recording and performing traditional blues and country blues material alongside her own compositions. After two records for Chrysalis, she recorded the instructional How to Play Blues Guitar for Grossman's label.
She toured constantly, often playing as many as 250 dates in a year and developed her reputation as one of the best players of old country blues in America.

AFter 2000 Block continued to tour, although not as heavily as in earlier times, often accompanied by her grown son Jordan Block, who also plays on her albums.
