Roland Dyens

Roland Dyens (born October 19, 1955 in Tunisia) began to learn playing guitar at the age of 9. At 14, he started his study at the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris with the Spanish master Alberto Ponce. He also studied composition with composer and conductor Désiré Dondeyne and was awarded the First Prize in Harmony, Counterpoint and Analysis. He won number of first prizes at most prestigous competitions and some of most important are:

- Special Prize at the International Competition Città di Alessandria (Italy)
- Grand Prix du Disque de l’Académie Charles-Cros
- laureate of the Yehudi Menuhin Foundation
- "Best Living Guitarists” in all styles by the French magazine Guitarist
- honoured by the Guitar Foundation of America (GFA) (2007)

In following years Roland Dyens has continued his career of pedagogue and performer, and is widely recognized as a consumate interpreter, arranger and composer. He was a guest in various festivals and prestigious events, toured all over the world. In addition to his many live concerts, Roland Dyens made regular radio and television appearances. His master classes and guitar workshops were very highly regarded.

His published compositions and arrangements have been received enthusiastically, and place him among the most innovative and complete musicians of his generation.

Roland Dyens died of lung cancer in Paris, October 29, 2016, 10 days after his 61st birthday.
He was way too young to die.
