After college in Miami he strated a career as a solo artist and studio background vocalist in the Latin music arena. In 2002 he moved to New York, where he began performing in clubs. Meanwhile, Midón was taking guitar lessons from a flamenco player. Later he turned to classical, then jazz guitar.
His major-label debut, State of Mind, featuring guest appearances from Stevie Wonder and Jason Mraz, was released by Manhattan Records in June 2005.
