The three-time Grammy nominee American jazz guitarist, Mike Stern (born Mike Sedgwick; January 10, 1953) is one of the premier guitarists of his generation. He studied at the Berklee College of Music and started his career as a guitar player with Blood, Sweat & Tears at the age of 22. After three years Mike joined Billy Cobham's fusion band from 1979-1980. Once he moved to New York City, was recruited by Miles Davis in 1981. During three-year period with Miles, Mike appeared on three Miles' recordings.
From 1983 to 1984, he toured with Jaco Pastorius band. As a leader Mike debuted in 1985 with Neesh band. Later he joined different projects and artists like David Sanborn, Michael Brecker and many more.
In February 2009 Stern was named to the DownBeat's magazine’s list of 75 Great Guitarists.
In August 2009, Stern released album "Big Neighborhood", which was nominated for a Grammy for Best Contemporary Jazz Album.
