Martin Taylor (born 20 October 1956) is British multi award winning guitarist and composer one of the most highly regarded guitarists in jazz. He got his first guitar at age 4 from his father, jazz musician father, Buck Taylor. Inspired at first by Django Reinhardt and jazz piano players like Art Tatum, Martin started developing his own individual style of solo jazz guitar playing.
In the late '70s, Taylor was invited by Stephane Grappelli to play in a series of concerts in France. From the moment Taylor often toured with Grapelli appearing in Carnegie Hall and the Hollywood Bowl. It was the beginning of an eleven year collaboration which took in numerous world tours and over 20 albums, including recordings with Michel Legrand, Peggy Lee, Yehudi Menuhin, Nelson Riddle,John Patitucci and Paulinho Da Costa to name a few.
After two very successful albums for Sony/Columbia, "Kiss and Tell" and "Nitelife", he went on to record several albums for The Guitar Label.
In 2002 Martin was appointed a Member of the British Empire (MBE) for services to jazz. He was also eleven-time winner of Best guitarist at the British Jazz awards.
In In 2010 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Django Reinhardt's birth Martin released the Last Train To Hauteville album. Same year he started with innovative online Martin Taylor Guitar Academy
