At 15 Jeff built his first guitar and played it through a radio. His early heroes were rockabilly guitarists Cliff Gallup, James Burton, Chicago bluesmen Buddy Guy and Otis Rush.
Jeff never achieved the same commercial success as some other guitar vituoso of his time, primarily because of the haphazard way he approached his career. After Rod Stewart left the Jeff Beck Group in 1971, Beck never worked with a charismatic lead singer who could have helped sell his music to a wide audience.
Jeff has a unique style of playing guitar and unlike other performers; he does not relies much upon the electronic effects delivered by the modern instruments. He is able to produce a large variety of sounds by using his finger tips and thumbnail.
Beck has earned wide critical praise and received the Grammy Award for Best Rock Instrumental Performance six times and Best Pop Instrumental Performance once.
Jeff is also one of few musicians who have been twice inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame – with the Yardbirds and as a solo artist and bandleader.
