Alex di Grassi was born in Japan but raised in musical family in San Francisco, California. His grandfather played violin professionally, and his father was a classical pianist.
di Grassi is best known as fingerstyle guitarist, though he also learned jazz piano.

At first Alex performed as a street musician in London, now he performs solo concerts worldwide, holds various guitar workshops and master classes.
His 1998 album The Water Garden was Grammy nominated and is considered classics of the solo acoustic guitar genre.
Alex has played at such notable venues as the Montreux Jazz Festival, Carnegie Hall, Belfast International Festival, Telluride, and Wolftrap.
