Inspired to play jazz and blues after hearing Wes Montgomery, Barney Kessel, Joe Pass and B.B. King, Larry Carlton established himself first as a session musicians and later expanded his solo career and as a guitarist in various bands. He toured with the Fifth Dimension and different pop musicians, later joined the Crusaders. In in 1997 he replaced Lee Ritenour in the popular Fourplay band. In 1988 Larry Carlton was shot in a gang attack. Without a quick response from the paramedics, he could have bled to death. After extensive surgery and many months of rehabilitation Carlton started playing again.
