Finest America fingerstyle guitarist and record producer learned guitar playing rapidly, becoming an accomplished player by the time he left high school in 1941. His signature picking style was inspired by Merle Travis. He helped to create the Nashville sound, a style of smoother country music. Atkins received 14 Grammy Awards, Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. He performed by invitation at the White House for presidents Kennedy and George H. W. Bush.
